Laura Viltoft Overgaard is a multi-disciplinary designer working predominantly at the intersections between
textiles, performance and social design. She bridges the theory of design methodology, thinking and research
with an artistic approach to materials, space and body.
With a background in dance, she utilizes her special
understanding of the body as a medium of expression, and melds it with the importance of embodied know
ledge in design. She has a long practice of creating wearable design and styling, which gives her a clear sense
of visual and tactile communication along with technical textile skills.
I’m intrigued by communication, by the way we present ourselves, use and change language, perform roles and norms and adapt to a context.I see design as a constantly developing set of methods which can be applied in different fields. It is about systems of thinking, which can help us to approach a subject from multiples angles and understand what is needed in the process at certain stages.
Collaboration is essential for my drive and having conversations with others and asking questions is in important of that.
I enjoy working with materials and ‘waste’ that we already have available and I especially like thinking within and around the restrictions that come with a specific starting point.
